ABOUT SENFKORN ENERGY

At Senfkorn Energy, we love mini-grids. We believe mini-grids are key to rural development!

While Uganda had 57% of the population with access to electricity in 2022, Uganda’s current level of rural electrification is significantly low. Only 8% of rural residences had grid connectivity, majority (28%) relying on solar lanterns, and less than 1% electrified through mini-grids.

ESMAP defines mini grids as electric power generation and distribution systems that provide electricity to just a few customers in a remote settlement or bring power to hundreds of thousands of customers in a town or city.

The Uganda National Electrification Strategy shows a potential of 2700 mini-grids to be developed by 2030. By 2023, only 46 mini-grids were in existence in Uganda. According to the ESMAP, mini-grids have the potential to electrify over half a billion people worldwide.

At Senfkorn, we are convinced that a mini-grid is the heart of the community, pumping life-blood (in this case electricity) into the entire eco-system of a community! You want to change the world, build a mini-grid! The productive power from a mini-grid not only provide productive electricity to households and businesses in communities, but also provides electricity to social systems like schools and health facilities, impacting the entire life of a community. This is an addition to the environmental and climate benefits since mini-grids use renewable energy.
